Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, has demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship through two successful programmes held in conjunction with World Environment Day 2025, engaging employees in hands-on conservation efforts that delivered positive environmental impact.
On 5 July 2025, Northport employees cleaned up a mangrove area and planted 100 mangrove saplings of Rhizophora apiculata and Rhizophora mucronata species at Mangrove Point, Port Klang. The programme, organised in collaboration with Selangor Maritime Gateway, also included educational tours of river waste management facilities at the Klang River.
The company's environmental efforts extended beyond conservation to tackle textile waste through a recycling campaign held from 9 to 26 June 2025. The "Pengumpulan Pakaian Terpakai" initiative, conducted in collaboration with Cloth Circularity, collected 450 kilograms of used clothing and textiles, surpassing the initial target of 300 kilograms.
These initiatives, organised by the ESG Sub-Committee (Environment), align with Northport’s broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments and reflect the company's recognition that sustainable business practices require active participation in environmental protection efforts.
By engaging employees directly in conservation work, Northport is building environmental awareness among its employees while contributing to the preservation of the local ecosystem.
