On 25 September 2025, Senai International Airport welcomed representatives from Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (Nippon Koei), appointed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, for a Study on the Possibility of Airport Development and Operations Projects in Malaysia. The visit was held in conjunction with the 67th anniversary of Malaysia–Japan diplomatic relations, marking a new chapter of bilateral collaboration in the aviation sector.

The delegation, led by Nami Hayashida, Team Leader/Airport Planner, together with Joseph Mark Galbreath and Emylia Natasha, was received by Kennedy Ayu, Chief Executive Officer of Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd. Also present were members of the Management Team, who engaged in discussions showcasing the airport’s growth, strategic location, and potential in passenger and cargo operations.

As Johor’s international gateway and the only privately managed airport in Malaysia, Senai International Airport plays a unique role in connecting southern Peninsular Malaysia to domestic and international destinations. The airport has also positioned itself as a strategic hub for cargo and logistics, with close proximity to major industrial parks, seaports, and the Singapore market.

The one-hour meeting, followed by a site visit, enabled delegates to better understand the airport’s operations and expansion prospects. The study by MLIT and Nippon Koei aims to evaluate avenues for collaboration, including infrastructure development, operational expertise, technological exchange, and strategic investment.

The findings will contribute to shaping Malaysia’s aviation landscape while aligning with Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” For Senai International Airport, this collaboration reinforces its position as a key enabler of regional connectivity and economic growth.
