On 27 August 2025, YB Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail, Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak, made an official visit to the Redevelopment of Taman Ikan Emas in Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras. This landmark urban renewal project reflects the Government’s commitment to sustainable living and the provision of quality housing for the people. Others present during the visit were YB Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa; Minister of Federal Territories; YBhg Datuk Seri Noridah binti Abdul Rahim, Director-General of the Federal Territories Department; YBhg Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Shariff, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur; Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohd Noh, Chairman of Retro Highland Sdn Bhd along with senior officials and project stakeholders.
This redevelopment project is carried out under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, a strategic collaboration between Retro Highland Sdn Bhd (Retro Highland) and Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), with the aspiration of transforming one of the high-density residential areas in Kuala Lumpur into a modern, sustainable and inclusive community.
Spanning an area of 145 acres, the masterplan involves the construction of 5,650 residential units under the Quality Sustainable People Housing (QSPH) scheme, replacing ageing flats in Sri Pulau Pinang, Sri Melaka, Sri Johor, and Taman Ikan Emas. The project also supports the Government’s Madani Neighbourhood Initiative, designed to promote integrated living, social cohesion, and long-term urban sustainability for the B40, M40, and vulnerable communities.
The first phase, known as Residensi Lestari, comprises 1,192 apartment units (850 sq ft, 3 bedrooms) and is on track for completion in July 2026. As of July 2025, the project has achieved 71% progress, surpassing its planned target of 70%.
Beyond housing, the masterplan integrates commercial zones, transit-oriented development for enhanced connectivity, new infrastructure and utilities to replace ageing assets and public amenities including surau, kindergarten, multipurpose hall, shop units, and management office.
This redevelopment will not only uplift the quality of life for existing residents but also drive local socioeconomic recovery, strengthen community ties, and create a balanced, sustainable urban environment in line with the nation’s long-term development goals.
