On 13 November 2023, Gas Malaysia Berhad's (Gas Malaysia) wholly-owned subsidiary, Gas Malaysia Virtual Pipeline Sdn Bhd (GMVP) conducted a formal document exchange ceremony with Johor Plantations Berhad (Johor Plantations) during the Asia Pacific Climate Week 2023 (APCW 2023) in Johor Bahru.
Representing Gas Malaysia during the document exchange in a handover ceremony was Group Chief Executive Officer, Encik Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap while Johor
Plantations was represented by its Managing Director, Encik Mohd Faris Adli Shukery.
The ceremony was witnessed by YB Tuan Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural
Resources, Environment and Climate Change, YAB Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Menteri Besar Johor and Mr. Niclas Svenningsen, Manager of Climate Action Outreach, United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Previously, both parties formalised their commitment by signing a gas purchase agreement. Under this agreement, GMVP will procure biomethane that will be sourced from Johor Plantations palm oil mill located in Sedenak, Johor Bahru with an annual contract quantity of 250,000 MMBtu. The biomethane is then transported and injected into Gas Malaysia's Natural Gas Distribution System (NGDS) network, ensuring distribution to the valued customers.
This green gas venture embodies Gas Malaysia's steadfast commitment towards harnessing renewable energy and actively participating in the advancement of a greener future.
