On 5 October 2023, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group entered into a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) with Kolej WIT Sdn Bhd (Kolej WIT), with the primary objective of facilitating industrial training, with a special emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This collaboration aims to nurture a highly skilled workforce capable of fulfilling the needs within the port and logistics sectors.
The exchange of SCA documents between Northport's Chief Executive Officer, Dato' Azman Shah Mohd Yusof and the Chairman of Kolej WIT, Tan Sri Zainal Rampak was witnessed by the President of Transport Workers Union (TWU), Abu Hassan Hashim, during the signing ceremony held at Northport.
The signing of this three-year agreement signifies both parties' commitment to collaborate, exchange experiences, expertise, technical capabilities, resources, and knowledge to support TVET matters.
Dato' Azman said, "In line with the Government's initiative in empowering TVET, this collaboration is a step forward to ensure that TVET programmes are of high quality and remain up to date in nurturing talents for jobs of the future. It also underscores our commitment to support the underprivileged communities within our local area by providing industry-led training that will make the trainees job-ready for the ports and logistics sector."
The partnership between Northport and Kolej WIT provides a platform for knowledge and skills sharing through the Northport International Centre of Excellence (NICE), a centre offering specialised port industry training programmes, catering to the technical training requirements of Northport's employees, contractors and port users.
