Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), a member of MMC Group, participated in Southeast Asia's largest trade event for green technologies and eco solutions, the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2023, from 4 to 6 October 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Aimed to connect solution providers and green energy businesses with the ASEAN market, IGEM also allows businesses to showcase their innovations, exchange insights and forge collaborations to improve sustainability and ultimately, contribute to global economic growth.
In conjunction with IGEM 2023, Malakoff held a Memorandum of Understanding document exchange ceremony with ports under the MMC Group of Companies (MMC Ports), namely Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, Johor Port Berhad, Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd and Penang Port Sdn Bhd, to explore the collective potential through collaboration and undertake business exploration in various green power initiatives, including but not limited to, any solar power programmes under government initiatives, such as the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP), Self-Consumption (SelCo), cold ironing or shore-to-ship power supply, installation of Electric Vehicle charging stations and others, collectively referred to as the "Green Power Projects".
The document exchange ceremony, which took place on the first day of IGEM 2023, was witnessed by YB Dato' Sri Huang Tiong Sii, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC), YBrs Dr Ching Thoo Kim, Secretary General of the NRECC and Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Executive Vice Chairman of Malakoff.
Saravanan Desigamanie, Head of Sustainability, Research and Investor Relations of Malakoff, was also invited as one of the panellists at the AtoZero (Accelerate to Net Zero) ASEAN Summit that was held as part of IGEM. He spoke on the topic "The Importance of Regional Partnership to Support ASEAN's Net Zero Transition" where he highlighted Malakoff's decarbonisation efforts, cross-border policy revisions, infrastructure developments and Net Zero transition pathways, amongst others.
Malakoff's participation in the IGEM 2023 is a testament to the company's dedication to minimising its environmental footprint, developing RE solutions and promoting environmental stewardship in line with the Government's target to cut carbon intensity against GDP by 45% by 2030 compared to 2005 levels and increase the RE capacity mix to 70% by 2050.
