BMW Group Malaysia Celebrates 20 Years of Regional Distribution Hub Excellence in Senai Airport Free Industrial Zone

Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (Senai International Airport), a member of MMC Group, proudly celebrates the 20th anniversary of the state-of-the-art facility of BMW Group Malaysia's Regional Parts Distribution Centre located in Senai Airport Free Industrial Zone (SAFIZ). This milestone marks two decades of operational excellence and with the completion of its newest expansion, the centre further prove its strategic importance in the Asia Pacific region.

Established in 2004 at Port of Tanjung Pelepas, the facility moved to its advanced premises in Senai back in 2016. Initially spanning over 45,000 square metres, the centre has expanded to an impressive 65,000 square metres to reflect BMW Group's robust commitment to operational excellence and strategic investment in Malaysia.

The expanded facility boasts advanced features, including a dedicated High Voltage (HV) Battery Storage Area, cutting-edge Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) racking systems, and a two-tier configuration that allows for future growth. Sustainability remains central to BMW's operations as the company integrates solar panel roofing supporting its global green initiatives.

As one of BMW's largest facilities in the region, the hub has nearly doubled its business capability, with revenue growth from EUR 141 million in 2017 to over EUR 277 million in 2023. It manages over 100,000 monthly inventory movements, maintains over 52,000 parts in stock, and ensures industry-leading delivery accuracy and efficiency.

Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, emphasised the facility's dual role in enhancing BMW's supply chain and fortifying Malaysia's position as a strategic logistics hub. Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority, also lauded this achievement, highlighting Malaysia's strategic position and talent pool as key enablers for success.
