Senai International Airport Train Building Occupants on Quick Response and Preparedness in an Evacuation Drill

On November 7, 2024, Senai Airport Terminal Services Sdn Bhd (Senai International Airport), a member of MMC Group, conducted an evacuation drill coordinated by the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Department. This drill, which focused on offices and tenants in the airport's basement, aimed to test the functionality and effectiveness of the fire safety systems (active and passive) at Senai International Airport site, as well as the efficiency of on-site staff, including the Emergency Response Team, in executing evacuations and responding to fire alarm activations.

The evacuation process, led by the Emergency Response Team (fire marshals/sweepers and first aid teams from various departments) with support from AVSEC and AFRS, was successfully completed within just three minutes. Participating tenants, including AirAsia (Ground Team Red - GTR), the canteen service provider, and the Ministry of Health Malaysia demonstrated exemplary cooperation throughout the exercise.

The evacuation scenario involved activation of the Bomba fire engine from Bandar Putra, Kulai, which arrived on-site within thirteen minutes of the alarm sounding. A building evacuation inspection was conducted, during which members of the Emergency Response Team identified a casualty simulated by an IT personnel who was found in a confined space and suffered several injuries. The first aid team provided immediate care and assisted in moving the victim to a safer space before giving a proper medical attention.

Following the drill, a post-mortem session was led by PPgB Muhammad Fauzi Bin Awang,  Bomba Bandar Putra Station Chief to evaluate the overall exercise. Key successes and areas for improvement were discussed to further enhance future emergency protocols.

The HSE Department extends its appreciation to all employees, tenants, and Bomba for their invaluable support in making this critical exercise a success. Together, we continue to prioritize safety and emergency preparedness.
