Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora), a subsidiary of Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff), successfully organised its annual ‘Jom Plogging Saya Sayang Bumi’ programme at Pantai Cherok, Paloh, Kuantan, gathering 200 participants in a collaborative effort to protect and restore the environment. The initiative, which forms part of Alam Flora’s long-term commitment to fostering sustainable waste management practices, resulted in the collection of 1,312kg of waste, primarily plastic and glass, highlighting the critical need to reduce single-use waste and protect natural habitats.
The programme attracted strong support from young volunteers, representatives from the Kuantan City Council, the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), volunteers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang and the local village committee. This diverse participation reflects the spirit of collective responsibility and the importance of cross-community collaboration in tackling environmental challenges.
The event was officiated by Mohamad Muhazni Mukhtar, Chief Operating Officer of Alam Flora alongside Tuan Haji Mohd Nizam Mahayuddin, Secretary of the Kuantan City Council, who also flagged off the plogging participants.
As part of the initiative, 150 trees were planted along the coastal area, with saplings generously contributed by the Pahang State Forestry Department. This reforestation effort symbolises Alam Flora’s commitment to ecological restoration, carbon sequestration and habitat preservation, which serve as core pillars in the global pursuit of a low-carbon and nature-positive future.
By hosting the ‘Jom Plogging Saya Sayang Bumi’ programme annually, Alam Flora reinforces its role as a catalyst for environmental action, driving sustained community engagement and advocating for a circular economy mindset. The initiative also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly Goal 13 - Climate Action and Goal 15 - Life on Land, by promoting climate action and the sustainable management of terrestrial ecosystems.
This commitment is further reflected in Malakoff’s overarching purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities,’ reinforcing the Group’s dedication to creating a meaningful and lasting impact that goes beyond business operations, fostering a cleaner, greener and more resilient future for all.
