On 12 June 2025, as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening Business Continuity Management (BCM), Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) conducted a benchmarking visit to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Janamanjung. The delegation comprised representatives from Lumut Power Plant, Tanjung Bin Power Plant and Tanjung Bin Energy Power Plant.

The visit aimed to gain insights into BCM implementation and operational readiness from a fellow energy sector leader. Discussions covered BCM governance, emergency response structures and cross-functional coordination during crises.

A key highlight was a walkthrough of TNB Janamanjung’s War Room, where the Malakoff team observed how emergency coordination is managed in real time, ranging from situation monitoring and team mobilisation, to decision documentation during simulated events. The TNB team also shared lessons from recent incidents at other sites, notably the landslide at Sultan Mahmud Power Station in Kenyir, Terengganu. This case study reinforced the importance of proactive planning, swift crisis activation and effective communication in safeguarding lives and infrastructure.

In addition to the War Room experience, the delegation toured TNB Janamanjung’s solar facilities, offering insight into how sustainability is embedded alongside operational resilience. The visit reinforced the broader role of BCM in supporting environmental stewardship and long-term business continuity.

Main takeaways from the visit highlighted the effectiveness of centralised coordination hubs for real-time crisis management, the importance of clear role assignments and cross-functional training, the value of real-world case studies in strengthening preparedness and the growing relevance of BCM in advancing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and sustainability priorities.

This initiative highlights Malakoff’s ongoing commitment to strengthening operational resilience and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) No. 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Through continued exposure to industry best practices and real-world scenarios, Malakoff is reinforcing the role of BCM as a critical element of its operations, supporting its broader purpose of ‘Enhancing Life, Enriching Communities’.
