DHL Unveils South Region Hub 1 and Breaks Ground on South Region Hub 2 at Senai Airport City Free Zone to Expand Logistics Capabilities in Malaysia and Southeast Asia

On 7 April 2025, DHL, the global leader in logistical services, officially marked a significant milestone with the grand opening of its first South Region Hub at Senai Airport City (SAC) Free Zone.

DHL’s ceremony also witnessed the ground-breaking of DHL South Region Hub 2, a continuation of DHL’s investment strategy in Johor to accommodate rising shipment volumes and growing cross-border logistics demands, particularly between Malaysia and Singapore.

The ceremony was attended by YB Tuan Lee Ting Han, Chairman of the Investment, Trade, and Consumer Affairs Committee Johor; YBhg Tuan Mohd Hafiz bin Aliman, Yang Dipertua Majlis Perbandaran Kulai; Gan Seng Keong, Chief Executive Officer of Senai Airport City; Edwin Wong, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Supply Chain Southeast Asia; and Mario Lorenz, Managing Director of DHL Supply Chain Malaysia.

YB Lee Ting Han in his opening speech highlighted that DHL’s decision to establish its footprint in Johor is timely and strategic. “This is DHL’s first-ever Southern Region Hub and it will also serve as its Southern Headquarters, which previously, DHL’s manufacturing and supply chain hubs were concentrated in Penang and Selangor, but today, Johor is stepping confidently into the spotlight”.

YB Lee added, “With a total investment of approximately RM100 million for Phase 1 & 2, covering over 308,000 square feet, it will generate more than 200 skilled job opportunities for locals, while contributing significantly to the region’s logistics ecosystem”.

Mario Lorenz, Managing Director of DHL Supply Chain Malaysia, further explained, “South Region Hub 1 in Senai Airport City will house the Connected Control Tower for the Southern Region, a key feature in strengthening DHL’s operational capabilities across Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. With the integration of advanced technologies, DHL is future-proofing logistics in the region and enhancing supply chain resilience.”

DHL’s regional Control Tower in Senai Airport City will act as the heart of DHL's operations in Southeast Asia, enabling real-time response to disruptions, optimising delivery schedules, and ensuring agility in managing fluctuating trade dynamics and tariff changes. The integration of smart logistics solutions, including data analytics and predictive technologies, further strengthens Johor’s role in the evolving ASEAN supply chain network, with Senai Airport City emerging as a key logistics hub driving this transformation.

Senai Airport City’s key target sectors, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Electrical and Electronics (E&E), Automotive, Life Sciences and Healthcare, align closely with DHL’s focus areas. DHL’s decision to establish its South Region Hub at Senai Airport City underscores the strategic advantages of Senai Airport City’s Free Zone, offering a powerful logistics gateway to these high-demand industries.

With DHL’s world-class logistics solutions now integrated into the Senai Airport City’s ecosystem, Senai Airport City’s current and future investors will benefit from enhanced supply chain efficiency and access to advanced, reliable logistics infrastructure that drives business growth and strengthens Johor's position as a logistics and industrial hub.
