On 20 May 2025, Gas Malaysia Berhad’s wholly owned subsidiary, Gas Malaysia Green Ventures Sdn Bhd (GMGV) achieved a significant milestone by reaffirming its commitment to the nation’s green energy agenda with the official launch of Malaysia’s first Centralised Biomethane Injection Station.

The ceremony was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Minister of Plantation and Commodities, together with Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, Chairman of Gas Malaysia and Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap, President & Group Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia. The event also welcomed the presence of key government officials, industry leaders and stakeholders.

The Centralised Biomethane Injection Station, spearheaded by GMGV, is strategically positioned to receive biomethane from surrounding palm oil mills and offers a centralised solution for injecting biomethane into the natural gas grid, which is scheduled to be fully operational by the second half of 2025.

The effort undertaken by Gas Malaysia is aligned with key national policies, including the National Energy Policy 2022–2040 (NEP) and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). These frameworks underline Malaysia’s aspiration to shift towards a low-carbon economy and a more inclusive and sustainable energy ecosystem. In addition, this effort also supports the National Biomass Action Plan 2023–2030, by transforming palm oil waste into high-value renewable gas, therefore contributing to a circular economy while enhancing the value chain of the plantation sector.

This business venture is poised to deliver encouraging outcomes, including the provision of internationally certified green gas, recognised under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), which in turn helps industrial customers achieve their sustainability goals.

During the launching ceremony, several other significant activities were also held, including the handover of the Malaysian Book of Records certificate, officially recognising the Centralised Biomethane Injection Station as the first of its kind in Malaysia.

The event also featured a signing ceremony with AmBank, marking a strategic financial collaboration to support sustainable energy projects, as well as a Memorandum of Collaboration with Evonik, aimed at exploring future joint initiatives in green technology development.
