On 2 July 2022, Penang Port Sdn Bhd (Penang Port), a member of MMC Group, welcomed back the international cruise after a long hiatus at Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal (SPCT). The Spectrum of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd is the first international cruise to reconnect holidaymakers with the Pearl of the Orient.
Present during the historic occasion were, Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, Chairman of Penang Port Commission, Monaliza Suhaimi, General Manager of Penang Port Commission and Dato’ Sasedharan Vasudevan, Chief Executive Officer of Penang Port.
A total of 2,991 passengers were greeted with warm Malaysian hospitality, cultural performance and vibrant trishaws to bring them around Georgetown. All the passengers were also able to experience the upgraded SPCT which is about 30% bigger and will be able to handle 50% more passengers.
The recommencement of the international cruise is a welcome sight as it will boost the economy and revive the tourism industry in Penang. Penang Port is dedicated in making strides to improve the cruise terminal and its services. Among which is the enhancement of the facilities to provide world class aspects on service and comfortability to the passengers.
