On 26 September 2022, Pelabuhan Tanjung Pelepas Sdn Bhd (PTP) and Johor Port Berhad (Johor Port), members of MMC Group, were declared as Malaysia’s cocoa trade hub in a ceremony officiated by YB Dato’ Sri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, Deputy Minister II of Plantation Industries and Commodities at Forest City Golf Resort, Gelang Patah.
At the same event, YB Dato’ Sri Dr Wee Jeck Seng also inaugurated the Cocoa Chamber Facilitation Laboratory Office located in PTP, Johor. This laboratory office also plays a role to conduct quality monitoring and verification services of compliance with the import requirements.
Also present during the ceremony were, Rahimah Majid, Chairman of Cocoa Board Malaysia, Dr Ramle Hj Kasin, Director General of Cocoa Board Malaysia, Cheah Chee Fong, Secretary of Cocoa and Pepper Industry Development Division, Kamaruzaman Hj Munasir, General Manager of Johor Port Authority, Marco Neelsen, Chief Executive Officer of PTP and Md Derick Basir, Chief Executive Officer of Johor Port.
The declaration of PTP and Johor Port as a cocoa trade hub for Malaysia will further boost the reputation of both organisations as the global benchmark for integrated port services from the Straits of Malacca. This will also strengthen bilateral relations between the ports with Government agencies while at the same time exploring business and investment opportunities for both parties.
