From 15 to 21 February 2025, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, hosted the Final Training of Exercise MANTIS Series 11/2025. The training was conducted as part of an annual bilateral exercise  between the Malaysian Army and the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command (CANSOFCOM).

This exercise focused on enhancing capabilities to respond to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNe) threats. It involved collective and individual training to strengthen interoperability between the forces, including the Special Service Group (GGK), Royal Malaysian Navy Special Forces (PASKAL), Royal Malaysian Air Force Special Forces (PASKAU), CBRNe and Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) units from the Royal Engineer Regiment (RER), Malaysian Army Aviation (PUTD), CBRNe Response Team from the Chemistry Department of Malaysia and the 1 Squadron 40th Port Specialists Regiment of the RER.

The final training focused on a scenario where unidentified armed individuals had taken several hostages. They have also utilised industrial chemicals, believed to be used for weapon production, and seized the terminal operations office as a ‘clandestine lab.’ A simulated incident was conducted requiring prompt and effective rescue of hostages, during which the expert teams demonstrated their ability to respond to the crisis and successfully stabilise the situation. The closing ceremony of the Final Training of Exercise MANTIS Series 11/2025 was held on 20 February 2025, jointly graced by Mejar Jeneral Dato' Rashidin Hashimi bin Ab Rashid, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Malaysian Army and Mr. Rob Bissett, Senior Political Officer of the High Commission of Canada in Malaysia.

Northport’s involvement in hosting the exercise demonstrates its commitment to supporting the national agenda in crisis preparedness. The exercise also simulated a crisis scenario within the port, highlighting the importance of emergency response in a critical infrastructure facility. Notably, Northport has been designated as a Protected Area and Protected Place under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959 (Act 298) by the Malaysian Government.
