On 21 March 2025, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd ("Northport"), a member of MMC Group, organized a Corporate Social Responsibility ("CSR") programme in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2025 by reaching out to the community in Pulau Ketam.
Essential household items including rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour, and other dry goods were distributed to 25 'asnaf' families in Pulau Ketam. During the programme, Northport also provided a financial contribution through its wakalah zakat fund to support the development and activities of Balai Islam Pulau Ketam and Maahad Tahfiz Mandarin Pulau Ketam.
Organized in collaboration with Northport's Surau Committee, the programme included an iftar gathering with the local community, 'asnaf' families and students from Maahad Tahfiz Mandarin Pulau Ketam. The programme also featured Maghrib, Isya' and Tarawih prayers with the Pulau Ketam community.
Pulau Ketam, located approximately 12 kilometers from Northport, was established in the 1880s when fishermen first settled in the area. The island is home to two Chinese villages and an Orang Asli village in Sungai Dua. Pulau Ketam benefits from unique geographical advantages, with fishing as the primary economic activity and serves as a tourist spot. The island is accessible only by sea, with ferry services providing the main transportation link to the mainland.
The CSR program was part of Northport's initiatives to engage with the local community in celebrating Aidilfitri. This effort highlights Northport's ongoing commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance ("ESG") principles while creating a meaningful and lasting impact on the community, reflecting Northport's role as a responsible corporate citizen.
