On 14 February 2025, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd (Northport), a member of MMC Group, held a knowledge sharing session titled “Integrated Coastal Management” (ICM). The session, organised by Northport’s ESG Sub-Committee (Social & Wellbeing), featured Datin Paduka TPr. Hajah Noraini Haji Roslan, the former mayor of Klang, as the speaker. She highlighted the importance of sustainable coastal development and environmental conservation.
The programme saw participation from 140 employees and provided valuable insights into how ICM plays a crucial role in balancing economic, social and environmental needs in coastal areas. The session also offered strategies to manage coastal resources effectively, including sustainable land use planning, pollution control and climate adaptation measures. The speaker also emphasized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, the private sector and local communities in ensuring the success of ICM initiatives.
The session highlighted Northport’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and reinforced the importance of incorporating Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) practices into its business operations. By organising this initiative, Northport aims to educate employees on the importance of ICM while fostering a more sustainable coastal ecosystem.
Datin Paduka TPr. Hajah Noraini is a distinguished urban planner and served as the mayor of Klang from 2021 to 2024. She holds a Master's degree in Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina, United States. Throughout her career, she has played a significant role in shaping urban planning in Klang, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Selangor and Subang Jaya.
